Question
Chapter 7, Problem 2DAA
Summary Introduction
To determine: The group in which the oxygen consumption per mitochondrion was greatest.
Concept introduction:
Triglycerides are a type of fat molecules. There are two types of tissues that stores the fat molecules: white fat and brown fat. White fat generates energy in the form of ATP. Brown fat generates energy as well as heat. The heat is generated due to the presence of thermogenin, a transport protein in the inner mitochondrial membrane that allows the hydrogen ions to move across it.

- CELLULAR RESPIRATION IN HUMAN CELLS Every cell in the human body is adjacent to a capillary. Glucose and oxygen carried by the blood can leave the bloodstream and enter the tissue cells. In most cases, the cells have enough supply of oxygen to carry out aerobic cellular respiration. But in times of short oxygen supply, such as during suffocation and strenuous exercises, the cells have to resort to anaerobic respiration. Starting as a lipid in some holiday prime rib, trace the path that energy and biomass make as that lipid is consumed by a college freshman, transported to a cell in the liver and converted into a carbohydrate, and finally as that carbohydrate is burned for energy in a cell in the cells of the shoulder muscles. Following your diagram/model, provide a written explanation for what you diagram/model depicts.
