The electron withdrawing atom or group has negative inductive effect that destabilizes the positive charge on carbon.

The alkyl groups have electron donating inductive effect and stabilize carbocation (carbon with positive charge).

The alkyl groups also show delocalization of electrons in sigma bonds through hyperconjugation and stabilized carbocation.

Hyperconjugation is the delocalization of electrons in C-H sigma bond of methyl/alkyl group.
