Answer to Problem 1P
NO CORRELATION
Explanation of Solution
Given information: The population of a city and the number of letters in the name of the city are to be considered as two variables.
Explanation: A correlation is a relationship between the two variables. It is of three types:
- POSITIVE CORRELATION: If the value of first variable increases with the value of second variable then there is a positive correlation between the two.
NEGATIVE CORRELATION :If the value of first variable decreases with the value of second variable then there is a negative correlation between the two.- NO CORRELATION: If the value of first variable doesn’t change with the value of second variable then there is a no correlation between the two.
According to the given information, population of a city is considered as 1stvariable and letters in the name of the city is considered as 2nd variable. There is no dependency or relationship exists between both variables because population of a city doesn’t increase or decrease with the number of letters in the name of the city.
Thus, there is NO-CORRELATION between the two variables.
