Introduction: During DNA replication, each of the original DNA strands serves as a template for the formation of entire new strand. DNA polymerase synthesize DNA strand by adding deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates on single strand DNA template. To maintain the genetic stability, the accuracy of the DNA replication is must, but also there is another mechanism called DNA repair mechanism that is important to repair the accidental lesions that DNA continually suffers. This eliminates the most of the changes, thereby minimizes the mutation rate. DNA repair system utilize old DNA strand as a template to repair the new strand.
