To review:

The cellular and molecular mechanisms receiving and interpreting the GDF11 signal in the V-SVZ niche to stimulate neurogenesis. Whether GDF11 play any other role in the healing process or either it is due to increased presence of hematopoietic stem cells.

Introduction:

Neural stem cells (NSCs) are multipotent adult stem cells present in central nervous system and a group of ectodermal progenitor cells, which differentiates into committed neural subtypes, such as neurons, astrocytes, or oligodendrocytes. In the adult mammalian brain, NSCs have been characterized into two principal regions of the cerebrum: the subgranular zone (SGZ) of the hippocampus and the ventricular-subventricular zone (V-SVZ) of the lateral ventricles.
