The mitochondria and chloroplast are organelles that show maternal inheritance, in which inherited traits are passed by the mother to the offspring. The mitochondrial genome is a complete genetic complement of mitochondrion whereas the chloroplast genome is a circular DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
