How are photosynthesis and respiration related to each other?
To describe: The ways in which the photosynthesis as well as respiration are connected with one another.
Introduction: Cellular respiration can be defined as a set of metabolic reactions plus processes that occur inside the cells. This process is necessary to convert biochemical energy that is obtained from nutrients into energy molecules called ATP, followed by the discharge of waste products.
Explanation of Solution
In photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is reduced with the help of light energy, thereby generating glucose and other carbohydrates that are rich sources of energy. In cellular respiration, these energy-rich compounds undergo oxidation that forms carbon dioxide plus water, and the energy liberated is captured for further life processes. In short, photosynthesis as well as respiration are the corresponding biochemical reactions. The products formed in photosynthesis are required for respiration, whereas the products formed in respiration are required for photosynthesis. Both these processes permit living cells to produce and store energy; in addition, they help to control the concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the environment.
