Chapter 44, Problem 8TY
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Salt marshes are coastal wetland areas that are drained and flooded by the saltwater which brought in by the tides. They are composed of peat and deep mud. Climate change and the rise in sea level also threaten salt marshes. They provide nutrients. Marshes can also contribute to mosquito control, beneficial to a lot of people.

Georgia coastal marshlands encompass approx 475,000 acres behind the barrier islands. Georgia has over 1/3rd of the salt marsh on the whole Atlantic coast.
