Planning an innovative house. A local electric company wants to build an experimental house that will conserve energy. Company officials believe the project breaks down naturally into the following tasks (the time required for each task is given in parentheses):
1. Draw plans for house (2 months)
2. Design energy systems for house (6 months)
3. Develop new insulation techniques (3 months)
4. Purchase land (4 months)
5. Build conventional shell of house (6 months)
6. Install new energy systems (2 months)
7. Install new insulation (1 month)
8. Finish the remaining conventional parts of the house (3 months)
9. Landscape (1 month)
10. Perform tests to determine energy usage in house (8 months)
Determine a reasonable list of dependencies for these tasks, then draw a PERT diagram and develop a schedule for these tasks. Answers will vary.
