Concept introduction:

The stereoisomers of the double bond are cis-trans and E-Z isomers. These configurations of the alkenes arise from the arrangement of groups on both sides of the group respective to each other. For the alkene to be a stereocenter two groups on both side of the double bond must be different from each other.
