Concept introduction:

Proteins are larger molecules that consist of long chains of smaller units known as amino acids that are linked together through peptide bonds. There are twenty different amino acids which have their own characteristic features that make up a protein. The composition of the variable side chain (possesses different chemical properties such as polar or non polar) of amino acid will be different in every amino acid. This discrete chemical property of the amino acids contributes to determine the structure (protein folding) and function (different functions based on the location inside the polypeptide chain) of the protein.
