Concept explainers
a.
To describe: Chlorosis.
Introduction: The term chlorosis is originated from the Greek word Khloros, which means pale green or greenish yellow color. Chlorosis is the insufficient green pigmentation on leaves. This may lead to carbohydrate production hindrance, plant nutrition intervenes, and it may eventually result in plant death.
b.
To mention: The first probable place in the plant where one can see the deficiency of an immobile element.
Introduction: Mobile and immobile nutrients indicate the transportability of essential nutrients within the plants. Nitrogen (N) as nitrate, potassium (K), phosphorous (P) as phosphate, molybdenum (Mo), zinc (Zn), and chlorine (Cl) are mobile nutrients. Sulfur (S), calcium (Ca), boron (B), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu) are examples of immobile nutrients.

- The green color of plants is explained by the wavelengths of light that are reflected, transmitted, and absorbed by the chlorophylls in the thylakoids. Which of the following statements is true? Plants appear green because chlorophylls reflect and transmit yellow and green wavelengths of light, and absorb red and violet-blue wavelengths of light. Plants appear green because chlorophylls reflect and transmit red and blue wavelengths of light, and absorb yellow and green wavelengths of light. Plants appear green because chlorophylls reflect and transmit red and blue wavelengths of light, and absorb white wavelength of light. - B) Describe the mechanisms employed by two types of plants to minimize photorespiration and ensure that the CC is carried out even when environmental conditions are not in their favor. Be sure to identify 1) the type of plant, 2) its natural environment and how it affects the plant's ability to perform the CC, and 3) how it has adapted itself to minimize photorespiration. 4arrow_forwardA) The concentration of CO2 is lower inside a plant cell than in the atmosphere (outside the cell). In your own words, describe how the CO2 levels are kept low inside the plant cell and explain why this is necessary. Assume stomata are open. B) Regarding the situation presented in Part A and assuming that the stomata of the plant leaves are closed, would this favour the induction of photorespiration in a C3 plant? Explain. Make reference to relevant molecule or molecules as needed. Please clearly label your responses as A and Barrow_forwardDescribe the similarities and differences in the absorption and regulation of iron and zinc. What is the mechanism/process that makes phytates affect iron and zinc absorption? How can we enhance the absorption of these sources? Which is the better choice—to eat processed foods that have been enhanced with phytochemicals or to eat natural foods that are rich in phytochemicals? Explain your answer.
