Concept explainers
The number of electrons in an atom , as compared with proton.
Answer to Problem 6A
The number of electrons in an atom is equal to the number of protons.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
There are electron, proton and neutrons in an atom. Protons and neutrons are inside the nucleus and electrons orbits around the nucleus. Neutron is neutral means it has no charge, proton is positively charge and electron is negatively charge.
Protons and neutrons are inside the nucleus in an atom , and electrons orbits around the nucleus. An atom is neutral ,means atom has no charge. This is possible only when, the total number of protons in an atom are equal to the total number of electrons.
