Chapter 30.2, Problem 1SB
Summary Introduction
To review:
The main phylum and phylum-level categories of the kingdom
Introduction:
Fungi were classified as plants for several years, until recently, on the basis of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) along with the discovery of chitin in almost all of the fungal cells. It has been shown that animals and fungi, instead of plants and fungi, are closely related to each other. Different genomic studies and advancement in the molecular techniques show how fungi has evolved and are related. Fungal classification is specifically based on the mode of sexual reproduction and molecular data.
