Introduction:

Insulin is a 51-amino acid hormone that is required by the vertebrates for the regulation of blood glucose levels and affects lipid or protein metabolism. Thus, to some extent, affects the life span of an organism. It helps in the storage of excess glucose in the form of glycogen in the muscle tissues. It contains a quaternary structure in which two chains are held together by the disulfide bonds. Insulin performs its actions through binding as a monomer to the (αβ)2-homodimeric, tyrosine kinase-type insulin receptor (IR).
