Interpretation:
The different colors produced by flames should be explained.
Concept Introduction:
There are two types of emission spectra- continuous and discrete emission spectra.
Prism and diffraction grating are used to see the mixture of colors in light.
A diffraction grating is a device that deflects light through an angle that depends on the wavelength of the light. Light falls on the grating surface with different colors at a certain angle.
This creates diffraction pattern with all the different colors other than yellow, orange and blue comprising the light, scattered at different angles.
