To explain: Which one of the following figures represents a half full
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The given diagrams represent energy band diagrams of a conductor (material A), a semiconductor (material B) and an insulator (material C) respectively.
Of all the three materials, material A(conductor) will have half-filled conduction band. The valence band of a conductor is half filled so the electrons can move freely without gaining extra energy. The valence and conduction bands overlap in a conductor. Hence the conduction band is also half filled.
Conclusion:
Materials with partially filled bands such as aluminum, lead and copper conduct electricity easily.
