To explain:Ifa resistor, a diode or a transistor is producedon doping pure germanium with gallium alone.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Adding small amounts of impurities to a semiconductor to change
Gallium is a group III element hence it has three valence electrons while Germanium has four valence electrons. Only three of the four valence electrons of germanium bond with the three valence electrons of gallium. An electron from a neighboring Germanium atom moves to the valence shell of Gallium creating a hole in its original position. This forms a p-type material. A p-type semiconductor exhibits the same characteristics of a resistor.
Conclusion:
A resistor will be produced.
