Concept explainers
To Explain: The color of the sky is blue.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light more than other colors since it travels a shorter length.
The sunlight gets scattered by molecules in the air. Red color has the longest wavelength and scattersthe least compared to the blue light, that’s why the sun appears red during sunrise and sunset. Blue light has a very short wavelength and scatters more efficiently than red and thus sky appears blue.
Conclusion:
The sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light more than other colors since it travels as shorter and smaller waves.
