Chapter 27, Problem 12SQ
Summary Introduction

Concept Introduction: Meristems are regions of undifferentiated parenchyma cells which have the ability to divide continually during a growing season. The plant tissues arise from the meristem. As the plant grows, the cells divide continually by the process of mitosis. The division causes some meristem cells to push away from the root or shoot tip. Those cells will differentiate and the cells behind the meristem elongate take their specialized function. The meristem will remain at the tip, continually renewing itself by producing more cells.
