Chapter 26, Problem 5MCQ
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The microscopic examination of a vaginal smear is used to detect microbial infections and other diseases. This test can be done using vaginal secretions or discharge. A small drop of a vaginal discharge with salt solution (PBS) is placed on a glass slide and covered with a cover slip. Clue cells, bacterial, and yeast growths can be observed under the microscope. Vaginal and cervical infections may lead to vaginal discharge; hence, a careful physical examination and test is required to differentiate these conditions. A vaginal infection is majorly caused by Trichomonas, Candida, Neisseria, and other bacterial infections.
