To review:
Whether the following statements are true or false.
a. Spermatogenesis is the process of sperm cell development. It begins at puberty and ends when a man reaches approximately 45-55 years of age.
b. Spermatogonia are the stem cell that begin the process of spermatogenesis and divide by mitosis.
c. Primary spermatocytes undergo the first meiotic division and form two smaller diploid cells called secondary spermatocytes.
d. Spermiogenesis is the maturation process of sperm cells and involves changing the size and shape of the cell.
Introduction:
The term gamete is used for sperms and the ovum. The gametes in humans are not identical, the sperm being smaller and motile, the ovum, on the other hand, is a large globular shaped non-motile gamete. Both the gametes are formed by the process known as gametogenesis. During gametogenesis, the sporogenous mother cell undergoes meiosis and forms haploid gametes.
