The reason due to which sustentacular cells are nicknamed as nurse cells in the testes.
Introduction:
Sustentacular cells are yellow colored supporting cells that surround the spermatogenic cells. Sustentacular cells are tightly bound by tight junctions, which form the blood–testis barrier. The barrier helps in the protection of forming sperm cells from the immune system because the sperm cells contain new antigens on their surface. Spermatogonia, on the other hand, are present outside the blood–testis barrier becausethey are identical to other cells of the body.
