Concept introduction: Nucleic acids have different structures based on their complexities, namely primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary. Secondary structures of nucleic acids are majorly established by the base-pairing pattern of the strands. One such secondary structure is the RNA loop or hairpin loop. Hairpin loop is the secondary structure of RNA, where maximum base-pairing takes place.
