A car of mass 1300kg is constructed using a frame supported by four springs and a dash-pot with a damping 5% of critical. Each spring has a force constant 20 000N/m. If the combined mass of four people in a car is 350kg, determine the period of execution of two complete vibrations in seconds. And then calculate the vertical acceleration experienced by the occupants at t=0.5s, given the initial displacement and velocity are 0 mm and 1 m/s respectively.
A set of scales consists of an instrumented spring from which the mass of the measured
object can be deduced, and a damper to reduce oscillations of the readings. The mass
of the scales is small and the damper is chosen to give critical damping when a 10-kg
object is weighed. If a mass of 20 kg is placed on the scales, what is the damping ratio
and how many cycles of vibration will occur before the reading on the scales settles to
within 1% of the correct value?
Determine the natural frequency in cycles per second for the system shown. Neglect the mass and friction of the pulleys. Assume that the block of mass m remains horizontal.

The small wheels serve to eliminate friction between the block and the surface, but can be treated as massless. The block is displaced an initial distance of 1.6 m with an initial velocity of 6.1 m/s. This causes the system to undergo free, undamped vibration. Determine the equation representing the position of the block, x, as a function of time, t. Then use this equation to determine the position of the block at 2.2 s.arrow_forward
