Introduction:
The principal organ of the respiratory system is the lungs. The lungs are a conical shaped organ present on either side of the heart. The function of the lungs is to enable exchange of gases between the external environment and blood. There are two lungs present in the body, the right and the left lung. The right lung is shorter than the left lung because the liver is superiorly positioned below the right lung.
