Introduction:

Pulmonary ventilation is otherwise called as breathing. It is a process where air is exchanged between the atmosphere and the lungs. The process of breathing involves two stages namely inspiration and expiration. Inspiration is the process of breathing in where air enters the lungs and expiration is the process of breathing out where air leaves the lungs. When the air moves inside and out of the lungs, it builds a pressure gradient between the high air pressures regions and low air pressure regions. This pressure generated within the lungs is termed as intrapulmonary or intra alveolar pressure.
