The complex
Concept Introduction:
A compound that has same molecular formula but different structural formula is said to exhibit isomerism. Co-ordination compounds exhibit cis-trans isomerism which is a type of geometric isomerism.
A cis isomer has two same ligands lying adjacent to each other whereas a trans isomer has two same ligands lying opposite to each other.

- Four different octahedral chromium coordination compounds exist that all have the same oxidation state for chromium and have H2O and Cl as the ligands and counterions. When 1 mole of each of the four compounds is dissolved in water, how many moles of silver chloride will precipitate upon addition of excess AgNO3?arrow_forwardThere are only two geometric isomers of the tetraamminedichlorocobalt(III) ion, [Co(NH3)4Cl2]+. How many geometric isomers would be expected for this ion if it had a regular planar hexagonal geometry? Give drawings for them. Does this rule out a planar hexagonal geometry for [Co(NH3)4Cl2]+? Explain.arrow_forwardAn aqueous solution of [Rh(C2O4)3]3− is yellow. Predict the approximate wavelength and predominant color of light absorbed by the complex.arrow_forward
