Introduction:In a plant, the transportation of food, water, and other substances takes place through the vascular tissue. There are two types of vascular tissue- phloem and xylem.

Explanation of Solution
Water consisting of dissolved minerals enters into the plant via its roots. These waters are used by the plants in the process of photosynthesis. The dissolved substances have many functions in plant cells. This water with dissolved substances is carried throughout a plant by xylem. These substances pass continuously from roots to the leaves. Xylem acts as the water carrying vascular tissue made up of specialized cells such as tracheid and vessel element.
Phloem carries dissolved sugars and other organic compounds throughout a plant. It carries substances fromstems and leaves to the roots or vice-versa. Phloem is composed of two types of cells which are sieve-tubes and companion cells. It acts as a main food-carrying tissue.
Thus,xylem acts as the water carrying vascular tissue and phloem acts as a main food-carrying tissue.
