Concept Introduction:
Fabric softeners are used to soft the fabric they are of two types cationic fabric softeners and anionic fabric softeners. Cationic fabric softeners contains surfactants of quaternary ammonium salts type with two long hydrocarbon chains and two smaller hydrocarbon groups attached to nitrogen atom.
Anionic softeners are mono and diesters of phosphoric acid.
An example of a cationic fabric softener is dioctadecyl dimethylammonium chloride.
