Concept introduction: Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL or APML) is a cancer of the white blood corpuscles. Abnormal proliferation of the precursor cells for granulocytes, the promyelocytes is APL. APL is a result of chromosomal aberration of chromosome 17 that is, translocation in the gene for Retinoic Acid Receptor alpha (RARα).
