Concept Introduction:
Geometric isomerism is a type of isomerism which is said by the position of the ligand in the complex. In case of tetrahedral complex, geometric isomerism is not possible as all the corners are equivalent. This isomerism is possible in case of square planar and octahedral complexes. If the two same ligands are present adjacent to each other means it is known as cis isomer and if they are present opposite to each other means it is known as trans isomer.
