Concept Introduction:
Geometric isomerism is a type of isomerism which is said by the position of the ligand in the complex. In case of tetrahedral complex, geometric isomerism is not possible as all the corners are equivalent. This isomerism is possible in case of square planar and octahedral complexes. If the two same ligands are present adjacent to each other means it is known as cis isomer and if they are present opposite to each other means it is known as trans isomer.

What are the colors (appearance) of the above complexes?arrow_forwardWhen water ligands in [Ti(H2O)6]3+ are replaced by CN- ligands to give [Ti(CN)6]3-, the maximum absorption shifts from 500 nm to 450 nm. Is this shift in the expected direction? Explain.arrow_forward3. Consider the blue-colored compound, [Cr(H₂O)]3³ and the yellow-colored compound, [Cr(CN)6]³. Calculate their magnetic moments and discuss their magnetic properties and their color.arrow_forward
