Chapter 20, Problem 6RQ
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The artery that is missing from the provided sequence of the circulatory system.

Introduction:

The subclavian artery is also named as an axillary artery, as it leaves the thorax and enters the axillary region. It supplies blood to major parts of the head, upper arm, and enters into brachium, thus becoming a brachial artery. Brachial artery goes down further to supply to biceps and arm muscles. Later, brachial artery branches off to radial, ulnar arteries and forms palmar arches.

Identify which artery is missing from the following sequence, which traces the flow of arterial blood to the right hand: Blood leaves the heart and passes through the aorta, the right subclavian artery, the axillary and brachial arteries, and through either the radial or ulnar artery to a palmar arch. (a) left coronary, (b) brachiocephalic, (c) cephalic, (d) right common carotid.
Tell which two veins are missing from the following sequence: Tracing the drainage of superficial venous blood from the leg, blood enters the great saphenous vein, femoral vein, inferior vena cava, and right atrium. (a) coronary sinus and superior vena cava, (b) posterior tibial and popliteal, (c) fibular (peroneal) and popliteal, (d) external and common iliacs.
The following sequence traces the flow of arterial blood to the left parietal and temporal lobes of the brain. Tell which artery is missing: Blood leaves the heart and passes through the aorta, the left common carotid artery, and the middle cerebral artery. (a) vertebral, (b) brachiocephalic, (c) internal carotid, (d) basilar.
