Concept explainers
What property of atmospheric pressure is used by an aneroid barometer?
The property of atmospheric pressure used by an aneroid barometer.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Aneroid barometer is an instrument used to measure pressure difference. In this instrument, no liquid is used.
Aneroid barometer consists of vacuum sealed chamber which has elastic properties. Chamber gets compressed when outside pressure is high, and relaxed when outside pressure is low. The reading is shown by the pointer in the barometer. It measures pressure difference between high altitude and low altitude.
Conclusion:
It is used to detect high altitude as it measures pressure differences.
