Summary Introduction

A cell typically consists of cytoplasm which contains several small molecules and macromolecules. These cellular components present in the cytoplasm are protected from the external environment by a cytoplasmic membrane which provides rigidity and support to the cell. It acts as a barrier which allows the transport of certain molecules across the cell and restricts the diffusion of unwanted molecules from the environment.
