Given information : In the figure we are given  ST¯  WX¯  and RV¯ , SW¯ trisect PT¯ ,  PX¯

Formula used : If two segments are congruent, then their like multiples are also congruent.

Proof: As per the question we have  ST¯  WX¯  .As both are congruent it means their multiples also will be congruent. So, we can write it as:

  3 ST¯  3 WX¯ .........................................................................(i)

Now RV¯ , SW¯ trisect PT¯ ,  PX¯ which means they divide both of them in three equal parts:

  PV¯ = VW¯ = WX¯ .................................................(ii)PR¯ = RS¯ = ST¯ .................................................(iii)

Consider PT¯ as per figure it can be written as:

  PT¯ = PR¯ + RS¯ + ST¯  PT¯ = ST¯ + ST¯ + ST¯ ...................................(from iii) PT¯ =3 ST¯ ......................................................(iv)

Consider PX¯ as per figure it can be written as:

  PX¯ = PV¯ + VW¯ + WX¯  PX¯ = WX¯ + WX¯ + WX¯  ...................................(from ii) PX¯ =3 WX¯ ......................................................(v)

Plugging in values from (iv) and (v) in(i) we get:

  ST¯   3 WX¯ PT¯   PX¯

Which proves the required result.
