Chapter 2, Problem 1CAE
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Ralstonia bacterium found in both soil and water. It grow under aerobic conditions. Under limited nutrient condition it directs its reduced carbon flux to synthesis poly hydroxybutyrate (PHB), a biopolymer stored in intracellular granules. Biosynthesis of PHB have been used industrially in the production of biodegradable plastic. Also used in the production of biofuel from CO2.

a) 1,3-Diisopropylurea is a relatively small, very hydrophobic molecule. Suppose that the [1.3- diisopropylurea] outside of a cell is 5*10-° M, and the [1,3-diisopropylurea] inside the cell is 2*10-5 M. If the diisopropylurea were to move out of the cell, what transport process would be used?
