Introduction:
The inherent ability of the myocardium to contract itself by overcoming the stress factors is said to be the heart contractility. This contractility is highly influenced by some chemical agents like ions, and these are said to be inotropic agents. Ions that bring an increase in heart contractility are said to be positive inotropic, and the one that bring a decrease in heart contractility are said to be negative inotropic agents.
