Cardiomyocytes are the basic and functional unit of the heart. These cells constitute to form the majority of heart tissues alongside with collagen and elastic fibers. These cardiomyocytes are primarily responsible for the contraction and relaxation of the heart and as well electric pulse transmittance for heart beat. Skeletal muscle cells the functional unit of skeletal muscles different from the cardiac muscle cells in their histology pattern and functioning. The structural properties of these cardiomyocytes and its difference from the skeletal muscle cells are described here with.
