- Moderator are used to slow down the speed of neutron .this is the main function of the moderator.
These material are capable to decrease the speed of neutron produce as fissionable
- For example: Helium at 1000atm and 1273K.berilium at high temperature, sodium at 773to 873 K used in breeder reactor.
- Control rods: As the name shows that this material designed to control the fission reaction.
It is made up of some neutron absorbing material like cadmium, helium or boron.
