Interpretation: If one member of an enantiomeric pair is a dextrorotatory compound then the optical activity of other enantiomer has to be predicted.
Concept introduction: A chiral compound which rotates the plane of polarized light in a clockwise direction is said to be a dextrorotatory compound. Similarly, if a chiral compound rotates the plane of polarized light in anticlockwise direction, it is known as a levorotatory compound.
