Interpretation: In common natural amino sugars, the carbon atom from which the hydroxyl group is replaced by the amino group has to be predicted.

Concept introduction: An amino sugar is formed by the replacement of one of the hydroxyl groups of monosaccharide by an amino group.  The three common natural sugars are D-glucosamine, D-galactosamine and D-mannosamine.
