Introduction:

The bacteria belonging to the phylum Firmicutes are Gram-positive bacteria having a thick peptidoglycan cell wall. They have low GC (guanine-cytosine) content. Their cell walls are strengthened by teichoic acids and cross-linking phosphodiester chains of ribitol and glycerol. Endospores are formed by many species that give them survival advantage under unfavorable conditions.
