Chapter 18, Problem 18.93CQ
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: L-dopa, not dopamine, is given to persons with low dopamine levels

Concept introduction:

L-Dopa is an amino acid also known as levodopa. By the biosynthesis process of human as well as plants and animals produces the L-Dopa. It is a precursor to the catecholamines.

L-Dopa act as a mediator itself in between the brain and central nervous system.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter. And it is a chemical which is released by the neurons.

A certain half-reaction has a standard reduction potential Ered +1.26 V. An engineer proposes using this half-reaction at the anode of a galvanic cell that must provide at least 1.10 V of electrical power. The cell will operate under standard conditions. Note for advanced students: assume the engineer requires this half-reaction to happen at the anode of the cell. Is there a minimum standard reduction potential that the half-reaction used at the cathode of this cell can have? If so, check the "yes" box and calculate the minimum. Round your answer to 2 decimal places. If there is no lower limit, check the "no" box.. Is there a maximum standard reduction potential that the half-reaction used at the cathode of this cell can have? If so, check the "yes" box and calculate the maximum. Round your answer to 2 decimal places.
