To Explain: The group14 and group-15 are better representatives of mixed group rather than the groups-13 and 16.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The group-13 to group-16 of the periodic table contain one or more metalloids. They also contain metal, non-metal or both.
- The group-14 elements are also called carbon group because it contains carbon-atom which is a non-metal. This group also contains the germanium and silicon which are metalloids and metals are also present in this group such as, tin and lead.
- The group-15 elements are also called the nitrogen group that contains nitrogen which is a non-metal. This group also contains the metals and metalloids. Thus, both groups contain at least three different classes of elements.
- Group13-16 is also considered the mixed group but is not better because they contain at least two different classes of elements.
Conclusion:
The group-14 and group-15 elements contain the metal, metalloids, and non-metal also. But the group-13 elements contain metals and metalloids only while the group-16 elements contain the non-metals and metalloids only.
Hence, group14 and group-15 are better representatives of mixed group.
