To explain:
The relationship between domains and kingdoms
Introduction:
Linnaeus’s system of classification was the first formal system of taxonomic organization. The taxonomic categories are part of a nested hierarchal system- each category is contained within another, as they are arranged from broadest to most specific.
Answer to Problem 31A
The broadest category in the classification system is the domain. There are three domains: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya. Within these domains are six kingdoms. Domain Bacteria and domain Achaea has one kingdom each but domain Eukarya has four kingdoms: Protista,
Explanation of Solution
A named group of organisms is called a taxon. Taxa range from broad diagnostic categories to having specific characteristics. The broader the characteristics, the more species the taxon contains. The taxa are organized into a hierarchical system. The different taxonomic categories are species, genus, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom and domain. Domain is the broadest category and species is the smallest category.
The most widely used biological system of classification has six kingdoms within three domains.
There are three domains are as follows:
- Bacteria- It has kingdom Eubacteria.
- Archaea- It has kingdom Archaea.
- Eukarya- It has four kingdoms: Protista, Fungi, Plantae and Animalia.
Hence Kingdoms are taxa within Domains.
