Summary Introduction

Chytridiomycetes are the group of zoosporic organisms. They are informally known as chytrids. This name is derived from the Greek word, which means “little pot” which describes the structure possessing the unreleased zoospores. The chytrids are the earliest diverging lineage of the fungi. Most of the chytrids species are known and some of them exist as single cells and others exist in the form of colonies with hyphae. They include both free-living forms as well as the parasites of plants, animals, and protists.
