Question
Chapter 15, Problem 34P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The given compounds are to be synthesized from toluene.
Concept introduction:
Benzene and substituted benzene undergo electrophilic substitution reactions in the presence of an electrophilic reagent that is Lewis acid in most cases. The electrophilic substitution on the substituted benzene occurs on the basis of nature of reagent present on the benzene ring. If the group is ortho-para directing that is electron donating, then ortho and para isomer will be formed as product, and if the group is meta directing that is electron withdrawing, then meta product is formed.
