Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Production of blood cells is known as hematopoiesis. It begins in the yolk sac during the early embryonic stage. Later, it is taken on by red bone marrow and finally in adults, the process of hematopoiesis is performed by pluripotent stem cells. The major components of blood are RBCs, WBCs, and platelets. The WBCs are further subdivided into 5 types of cells, neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes. All these cells are an inevitable part of the immune system and have some specific role to perform in the immune system. Some are involved in the innate immune system while some are involved in acquired immune system, or both.
